【訃報】米ジャズ演奏家/プロデューサーのテオ・マセーロ　死去　82歳

Teo Macero　Composer and producer who worked with jazz giants including Miles Davis

Teo Macero was best known as a record producer whose technical expertise helped Miles Davis change the face of modern jazz on a series of groundbreaking albums. But his skills involved far more than mere knob-twiddling. He was a highly talented composer and saxophonist who played with the likes of Charles Mingus and it was his innate musicianship, as well as his innovative approach to recording, that helped Davis and others to realise their vision in the studio.

訃報です。CBS在籍時のマイルス・デイヴィスのプロデューサーとしても有名なテオ・マセーロ（Teo Macero）氏が2008年2月19日、亡くなった模様です。1925年10月、米ニューヨーク州グレンズフォールズ生まれなので82歳。ジュリアード音楽院卒。慎んで故人のご冥福をお祈り致します。ジャズの世界では超有名人なのでジャズに詳しい人なら彼の記事を書くだけで相当な量のテキストが出来上がる事でしょう。

マイルス・デイヴィス「 Kind of Blue」を初め、数多くのジャズ・ミュージシャンの作品を手掛けた人で知られるレコード・プロデューサー。自身もサックス奏者。1953年にはチャールス・ミンガス・ジャズ・コンポーザース・ワークショップ（Charles Mingus' Jazz Composers Workshop）に参加して腕を振るっています。彼がコロンビアに入ったのは1957年からですが、そこではミンガス作品は勿論、Thelonious Monk、Johnny Mathis、Count Basie、Dave Brubeck、Tony Bennett、Charlie Byrd、Stan Getz　ら数々の著名なジャズ演奏家の作品を手掛けています。
